What is at issue in the case against Kris Gopalakrishnan?
On the advice of the 71st city civil and session court (CCH), the Sadashiva Nagar police station in Bengaluru filed a complaint under the Prevention of SC/ST Atrocities Act against Gopalakrishnan, former IISc Director Balaram, and 16 other individuals.
Why Is a Case Filed Under the SC/ST Atrocities Act?
The court’s ruling followed a complaint by Durgappa, a member of the Bovi tribe and a professor at the Indian Institute of Science’s (IISc) Centre for Sustainable Technology, who said he was wrongfully accused of being involved in a honey trap case in 2014 and was later fired.
Durgappa said that Gopalakrishnan and other individuals listed in his complaint also threatened him and harassed him on the basis of his caste.
Govindan Rangarajan, Sridhar Warrier, Sandya Vishwswaraih, Hari KVS, Dasappa, Balaram P, Hemalata Mhishi, Chattopadyaya K, Pradeep D Sawkar, and Manoharan are among the other defendants in the case.
Now What?
According to a PTI report, neither Kris Gopalakrishnan, a member of the IISc Board of Trustees, nor the IISc faculty responded right away.
